Kevin Darby is the founder and CEO of DTS Fitness Education and co-owner of Stretch to Win Canada. Kevin has been involved in structured physical conditioning programs for over 25 years. He was a multi-sport athlete and represented Canada internationally as a member of the Canadian Military Pentathlon Team. Kevin has had a long and successful career as a leader in the fitness industry and has been a head coach, personal trainer, wellness team leader for a 7500+ member police service and has developed multiple successful education programs. Kevin has worked with general population clients, amateur, Olympic and professional athletes in major sports leagues across North America. He holds a B.Ed. degree, was a member of an award winning research team lead by Dr. Stuart McGill and was the CanfitPro World Fitness Expo Canadian Fitness Presenter of the year in 2014. Kevin’s core belief is knowledge is not power, it is the ability to apply knowledge that makes it powerful.
Andrew Meyer has been active in the fitness industry for over 12 years. He put himself through University, BSc. Human Nutrition, working as a personal trainer. Andrew's experience as a varsity track athlete fed his desire to compete and branched his transition into other competitive sports such as Powerlifting and Bodybuilding. He is a training fanatic and enjoys tracking and manipulating different training variables. Andrew started a rewarding online fitness business in 2014 that focused on digital products and online coaching where he worked with an array of different clients, specializing in physique transformations. He believes that everyone can look, feel and live better in their body as long as they see themselves as an investment.
Ben McDonald has been in the fitness industry for 12 years. He has an extensive and varied sporting background including fencing, board diving, and various forms of Mixed Martial Arts. Ben has competed in Cricket, Aikido, Boxing, and Rugby. Ben’s career highlights include training a wide array of people from beginners up to premiership footballers, national champions in boxing, and elite level athletes. Ben has taught for the largest health and fitness training provider in Europe and has been published in multiple many UK based magazines. Ben has developed multiple qualifications, presented internationally, and is considered UK’s leading expert in PowerClub training. Awarded the 2013 recognition award for International Presenting and Work in the Health and Fitness Industry, it is evident that Ben’s passion and energy transfer directly to his students and his love for the industry is contagious. Ben’s core belief is that fitness should be inclusive not exclusive as there is no one way to do it.
Lisa Wong is the Operations Manager for DTS Fitness Education and the Administrator for Stretch to Win Canada. Lisa’s role is to provide an experience of excellence to every student that joins DTS Fitness Education or Stretch to Win as part of their education journey from the moment they register. Lisa’s passion for managing the details and providing impeccable customer service was fostered from her long-standing career in marketing, advertising and event planning. Lisa held senior marketing positions for Canada’s largest movie theatre chain as well one of North America’s most successful Film Studios for over 12 years. Lisa’s career highlights include being an integral part of marketing multiple Academy Award winning films, the meticulous planning of countless high profile film parties for some of the entertainment industries’ biggest stars and launching her own event planning company. Lisa holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University and believes that paying attention to the details increases your success and mental clarity.
Chris Fudge has over ten years of high level practical experience in the field of personal training and strength and conditioning, Chris is known for his obsessive style of tracking all variables in training and performance such as macros, sleep patterns, frequency, tempo, reps, sets, percents and tonnage. Because of this Chris is defined as a results based trainer. His education has led him to work with clients of various backgrounds from National record holding Powerlifters, award winning fitness models, university and professional athletes of varying sports to everyday weight loss and pain management clients. Chris has been awarded Personal Trainer of the Year across Canada (2013 + 2014), won provincial and national powerlifting championships and has represented Canada at the IPF World Powerlifting Championships 2014. Chris believes effort is what distinguishes great results from poor results.
Roshan “Rosh” Chopra is a Personal Trainer in Toronto and has been in the coaching industry for over a decade. Rosh grew up competing at a national level in both gymnastics and trampoline. Rosh’s expertise let him to a 4 year career as an acrobat with Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas working with Beatles LOVE. During his time in gymnastics, he competed, coached, and taught all age groups and abilities. Since retiring from Cirque and competition, Rosh has continued to pursue bodyweight training in addition to strength training through the Animal Flow program and brings a wealth of experience to the certification. Rosh holds a B.A and B.Ed degree and his philosophy is that movement “should” and “can be” fun for everyone.
Dr. Marc Bubbs has been in the health and fitness industry for over a decade. He is a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor, Strength Coach, Author, Speaker, Blogger, and Sports Nutrition Lead for the Canadian Men’s National Basketball Team. Marc has been working with athletes of all levels, active people, and those striving to improve their health for ease of day to day life as well as performance. He is a published author, a regular contributor to several magazines, a guest on multiple podcasts, and presents at various health and wellness conferences across North American and Europe. Marc firmly believes that exercise and lifestyle are the most powerful tools for changing your life, improving your overall health, body composition, and performance.
Joey Shillolo has been in the fitness industry for over 6 years. Before becoming a personal trainer, Joey was coaching with the Department of National Defence as a Military Fitness Instructor and was a sports coordinator for the Canadian Forces. Joey’s athletic background includes competing in amateur boxing and he was the winner of the 2008 IDFA Lightweight Bodybuilding title. Joey holds a BSc(H) in Kinesiology, is a member of CSEP, and has been named Personal Trainer of the year with Canada’s largest gym. Joey runs a unique and successful “Train like a Soldier” bootcamp that provides personal training to a large number of clients from varied backgrounds.
Lara Williston has been involved in the health and fitness industry since 2013. She was inspired to pursue a career in wellness after experiencing a transformation in her own health as a result of strength training. After struggling with mental health issues she found relief through connecting more with her physicality and the rewards of setting attainable goals. Starting out in personal training, Lara has now moved more into the manual therapy side. By combining fascial stretch therapy with training she helps clients develop the strength and mobility that they need. Lara holds a degree in biological sciences and is currently working on a diploma in massage therapy. Her core belief is to never stop learning!
Alex Marion has been involved in the health and fitness industry since 2002. He began instructing martial arts before starting his career as a personal trainer with Goodlife Fitness Clubs. Since then, Alex has gone on to complete an applied science degree in Kinesiology as well as a Diploma of Massage Therapy. Currently, Alex continues his pursuit of life-long learning by studying Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. Alex currently practices integrated neuromyofascial therapies, utilizing a combination of fascial stretch therapy, sport massage, osteopathic manual techniques and functional movement training in order to help rehabilitate and optimize physical performance. Alex’s philosophy is that the human body is a dynamic unit of interrelated structure and function that has the capacity to regulate and heal itself when afforded the opportunity. When he’s not helping people move better, Alex enjoys training both physically and mentally. He currently practices Chi Gong, the Wim Hof Method, and the traditional martial arts of Wing Chun Kung Fu and Sayoc Kali.
Robert Glean has been in the health, fitness, and wellness field going on 15 years as a Registered Massage Therapist, Fascial Stretch Specialist, and Movement Re-Educator. His active lifestyle as an athlete of many competitive sports, martial arts, meditation and stressing on the question ‘why?’, feeds him to understand the constant need of rehabilitation in others. Over the years of providing therapy, he has been devoting his experience to those with neurological challenges such as Spinal Cord Injuries, Stroke, Parkinson’s, Cerebral Palsy, to name a few. His thirst for education of the body and how the mind loses its control has given him different assessment tools and techniques for approaching our complex system with philosophies of the eastern and western world. Robert believes that if you want to meet the better version of yourself, you have to have a better state of mind.
Karla McConnell has a passion for fitness and wellness that began as a child where she played any sport that could join. This passion lead her 24 years ago into a journey of lifelong learning when her career started with a successful manual therapy practice blending her skills as an Athletic Therapist, Massage Therapist, Acupuncturist and Fascial Stretch Therapist. Karla has had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life and has had the pleasure of working with Elite, Olympic and World Class Athletes, the Artistic Athlete on stage, children, the weekend warriors and people that just want to move better and feel better. Karla truly believes that everyone should be able to move their bodies freely without pain and dysfunction and that you are never to old to start your own personal journey. A successful day at work for Karla is being able to put a smile on a clients face and a bounce back in their step they forgot was there! Her personal goal is to always “keep up” and be challenged by her daughter.
Louisa Armstrong has been coaching in the industry for over 10 years, starting out in the Ocean as a Surf Coach and on the Mountain as a Snowboarding Coach. Since getting her City and Guilds Personal Training diploma and making Calgary her base she now combines her passion for movement with a holistic approach using various modalities including Fascial Stretch Therapy and health coaching to restore movement and return quality of life back to her clients. Lou’s own health journey has lead her to discover new ways of movement through TRX, Animal Flow, GMB and is passionate about educating clients around how the body changes when under prolonged stress, focussing on PTSD and Post Concussion Syndrome and how to move past fearful movement and be free from Chronic Pain. This journey has led Lou to work with a wide array of clients from Olympic skeleton Bobsledders, NHL athletes, National Level Figure Skaters through the spectrum to the mobility impaired; with the one goal of providing quality of life back to the client. Lou truly believes that the magic of movement starts with the first step and the body is an amazing tool that can be retrained back to health.
Steve Thurston has been in the fitness industry for 8 years and was registered as a Massage Therapist in 2001. Steve’s passion for fitness and healing stems from his 25 years of various martial arts training. Having the right influences and treatment when sustaining injuries guided Steve to treating people by helping them discover their ability to move more freely and without pain. Incorporating the personal training with the massage therapy was an integral step in helping his clients who range from the youngest to the wisest. Steve’s goal is to make every client feel strong and healthy while decreasing pain and eliminating the physical restrictions holding us back. His personal goal is to be able to keep up with his two kids at home and stay as active as they are. Steve truly believes that movement is nature's medicine.
Alex Butt is a strength and conditioning coach and movement rehab specialist. He has been in the health and fitness industry for over 10 years and has coached and helped people achieve goals ranging from moving better and being out of pain to competing at the Olympic Games. Alex has always been active and has competed in multiple sports at high levels. He suffered a debilitating back injury at a young age and used strength training to fully rehab himself to be completely free of pain and movement restrictions and to still compete in physically demanding sports. That personal journey intensified his passion to help others overcome injury and pain as well as strengthening their body beyond what they could imagine. Alex’s core belief is that anything can be improved if you’re willing to apply effort.
